  • My specialty

Why were we born to be here on earth?  My answer?

To discover, learn and grow from each and every experience we have.

A question was recently asked around practitioners specialty.
I would like to share some revelations around my niche.

I am currently working with my eyes - willingly looking deeply to the foundation of my wearing gasses since the age of 7 years. This is raising my awareness and working with my ECHO’s (younger self) at many ages on so many levels.

Enabling loving gentle birth and nurturing babies and their family has been my greatest passion since the beginning of my nursing and midwifery career, and as a Meta-Health / EFT / Matrix Reimprinting / Birth practitioner.

A few days ago, in my morning meditation, my eyes, my specialty as a practitioner, and the word “in-sight” arose as an unplanned focus. Our language reveals our subconscious mind -   ‘in sight’ !!

In mentioning to my husband the revelations and even deeper connections in my meditation, I said “I have to specialise” - the irony of my words “I have two Special Eyes”.

As a neonatal nurse, I provide Special neonatal care within baby unit for babies and their families.

My learning as a practitioner ?  my niche ?   -  I provide ‘two special eyes’ for

    • The experience of each, in-utero, sick, premature, and well baby, and their family.
    • Traumatic experiences during pregnancy, birth and beyond.

Nurturing  and  connecting  back  the sacred bond of the infant,  their mother,  father,  and family,  the  foundation  for  their  life,  and  our  humanity.

  • Babies, Birth, Relationships and Love

An article written for   Meta-Healthy Life    online magazine  - link

Our first relationships are within the womb when as a tiny bunch of cells we begin our journey in life.

Many think of the developing embryo and fetus as an unconscious being. This is far from the truth.

From the moment of conception we are conscious beings and are influenced by the world of our mother. And her mother, as we began as a cell when our mother was a three month fetus. We can look back even further if we consider that we chose our parents and plan our soul’s journey in this life. 1

Love and relationships begin before conception

Working with clients (and with myself) as a META-Health and Matrix Reimprinting Practitioner, I have witnessed the impact of how our experience in utero and at birth influences our life, our relationships and our ability to give and receive love. I have also personally been back to my 8 week old fetus, and earlier to my conception, to the origin of my one core belief, and what this might mean in the family relationships I would be born into.

I have recently had the pleasure of training in Matrix Birth Reimprinting with its creator, Sharon King. As a neonatal nurse, midwife, mother, Matrix Reimprinting and META-Health practitioner, I have been following and incorporating Sharon’s work for some years.

Attending this training enabled me to go deeper in my understanding and ability to work with birth trauma and pre-conscious memories. Through going back to my own birth, I learnt why I have such a deep passion for enabling loving, gentle birth, keeping babies with their mothers and fathers and nurturing newborns skin to skin. 2

Babies are conscious beings from the moment of conception and they remember their birth and time in utero 3, 4. Every thought, feeling and emotion is recorded 5. There are many research studies and countless birth reimprinting stories that show us this is repeatedly true.

    Shaped by our birth

Our birth story makes a difference to us. It sets the stage for our experiences in life, how our brain develops, how we organise ourselves, and how we relate to our world.

Through my studies and research of the mind body brain social connection, I have learnt that our body knows what it needs, is always wise, and at all times, strives to maintain homeostasis. We respond to our environment through our senses and perceptions. These experiences create our thoughts, emotions, and beliefs and are not only in our mind and nervous system. Our brain releases chemical messages (neurotransmitters) that allow it to communicate with itself, and organ tissues. Our body bio-logically responds depending how we perceive the experience. So we are physically reacting, and changing, in response to the thoughts that run through our mind. This occurs at all stages of our development from a fetus in utero, to a new born baby and as we grow and become adults 6.

Hypnosis, Matrix Reimprinting 7, Reiki, and other therapies have taught us we can connect energetically through time and space with someone anywhere in the world and in our past. Tuning into your little one during pregnancy creates learning, knowing and increased connection for both mother, father and baby. Post birth, early care can profoundly alter an infant throughout their life and effects of separation can be extensive. To a baby it is a life – death situation when separated from their mother. Separation disrupts an infant’s behaviour and development 8 and there is extensive research on its effects, especially if repeated. Effects not only for the infant, their mother, father and family, but also for society. Early stress also has the potential to alter gene expression.

Sharon King, author of ‘Heal your Birth, Heal your Life’ 9 , writes of life long anxiety, hypervigilence, fear and shame, the inability to regulate ones’ emotions, an exaggerated stress response and decreased resilience, all relating back to separation at and around birth.

Gabor Maté 10, 11 also writes extensively on this subject and includes a long list of effects, especially if separation continues during early childhood. Depression; socio-moral immaturity; relationship problems; trust, low self esteem and attachment problems; disconnect with others; behavioural and learning issues; aggression, violence and addiction; a feeling of being disempowered, rejected, unloved, unwanted or abandoned which may even lead to mental illness and or suicide; physical illness such as asthma, high blood pressure, heart disease, and cancer. All can relate back to separation issues, many of which may have originated at our birth.

Further research shows us that our perception of our birth experience can impact on our decisions throughout life. For example having our cord around our neck at birth, may create dislike as a child and adult for anything around our neck. If our labour was induced we may have boundary issues, feel unable to do things for ourselves and need someone to rescue us, or not know how to get started on a project. Forceps delivery can lead to issues with bonding, loss of trust, and a sense of intrusion or violence. And the list goes on 5 .

META Health provides us with the knowledge of how our body will respond when a specific organ tissue is impacted. We know the theme of what is occurring and the phases that will be experienced as the body moves through the process of healing, in its return to health. For example, an infant reunited with his or her mother after being separated may develop the red, hot, itchy symptoms of eczema – a skin epidermis condition.

So I am asking some questions

    • Is the experience of your in utero relationships and birth affecting your life?
    • Or the life of your children?
    • Did you experience a traumatic event during your time in utero or when pregnant or during birth?
    • Is your birth experience influencing the decisions and choices you make in life?
    • Were you or your little one fearful or anxious during pregnancy and birth?

Studies show 80% of seven year children who were in utero during the Christchurch, New Zealand earthquakes, suffer from anxiety.

If any of these questions, or many others I have not asked, bring up memories or trigger you in any way, remember, we (and our parents and those involved in our birth) were always doing the best we could with the knowledge and understanding we had at that time 5.

Dr Sears 12 and many others write of the “sensitive period” at birth when mothers and newborns are uniquely programmed to be in contact with each other and do good things to each other.

Enabling skin to skin nurturing at birth, during the neonatal period and beyond, is my greatest love for infants and their parents. I have written a series of four articles on this and continue to expand this opportunity for newborn infants and parents in my work as a neonatal nurse within Special Care Baby Unit (Nelson, New Zealand).

Through my neonatal nursing work I was fortunate to attend a one day seminar with Nils Bergman, the worlds leading authority on skin to skin. Backed by extensive ongoing research we know this is what every newborn infant requires and deserves.

Relationships that began before and in utero, are cemented further within the psyche of the infant and mother (and father) at birth. I deeply and passionately believe loving gentle birth is the way forward for mankind.

For those who were unable to experience this and loving vibrations during their time in utero, Matrix Birth Reimprinting gives us the opportunity to go back. To give our little self a voice to say and do what they needed to do, in every moment of trauma, big or small. To connect and form a loving bond with their mother, father and significant other. The impact of this on our life is profound. We are social beings and need our family, our community, and one another in our world.

Life is meant to be a journey of discovery, to find the learning from our experiences so we can evolve as conscious beings. This starts before our birth.

I am hopeful that in teaching and writing, I can share my experience and research with others, so it will become the norm to honour and respect the dynamic connection between an infant, their mother, their father and family.

  • Matrix Birth Reimprinting

In March 2018 I had the pleasure of flying to the Gold Coast Australia to train in ‘Matrix Birth Reimprinting & Matrix Life Purpose’ with their creator, Sharon King.  This qualification enables me to work with Birth Traumas and pre-conscious memories.

As a neonatal nurse, midwife, mother, Matrix Reimprinting and Meta-Health practitioner, I have been following Sharon's work for some years. I loved her book ‘Heal Your Birth, Heal Your Life’ and consider it compulsory reading for everyone who has been born, given birth, and for all who work with clients and child birth.

Attending this training has enabled me to go deeper in my understanding of the impact of our birth on our life.

Through going back to my birth, I learnt why I have such a deep passion for keeping babies with their mothers (and fathers) and skin to skin nurturing.

I was born in the era when newborn babies were placed in a nursery and taken out to their mothers for feeding 4 hourly. Guided gently and lovingly by a colleague on my Matrix Birth Reimprinting training, I went back to my newly born self.  Not to become her, but to be with her.  She was in her cot, crying.  Separated from her mother as was every other baby in that nursery room.
Being able to say and do what she wanted is / was life changing for her and me.  We wrapped her gently in a soft pink blanket - her chosen colour for safety.  We asked her what she needed.  Together, we created the 3 things she wanted - her angel to come and watch over her,  her daddy to take her to her mummy and put her back on skin to skin. This was profound for her,  but she wanted more.  She wanted all the other babies daddies to take them to their mummies too, to be placed on skin to skin, nurtured with no separation.

On my visits back to that nursery room, multiple times since, it was always empty.
Several days later I went back into the ‘matrix’ and changed that room, to be a place for nurturing babies on their mothers and fathers. Soft lighting and gentle music now fills that room. A place of comfort with lazy boy chairs. A place for babies, mothers, fathers and families where only love and connection exists.

This is the ability we have with Matrix Birth Reimprinting for any birth experience.

Babies are conscious beings from the moment of conception and they remember their birth and time in utero (Chamberlain, 2013). Every thought, feeling and emotion is recorded (King, 2018). There are many research studies and countless birth reimprinting stories that show us this is repeatedly true.

Our birth story makes a difference to us. It sets the stage for our experiences in life, how our brain develops, how we organise ourselves and how we relate to our world.

I reach out to you and ask:

    • Is your experience of birth affecting your life?

or the life of your children?

    • Were you or your little one fearful or anxious during pregnancy and birth?
    • Did you experience a traumatic event during your time in utero or when pregnant or during birth
    • Did you have a fast birth?
    • Were you induced, born by caesarean, forceps, ventouse, stuck, or had your cord tightly around your neck during your birth?
    • Did you or your children experience separation?
    • Are you aware, that the health concerns / relationship issues you are experiencing during your life may relate to your birth?

If any of these questions, or many others I have not asked, bring up memories or trigger you in any way, remember, we (and our parents and those involved in our birth) were always doing the best we could with the knowledge and understanding we had at that time (King, 2018).

It is how   we  perceive our experiences in life that is relevent for us. And our reality  will likely differ from others perception even if they were there at that time.

We also all come into this world to learn through our experiences.

Be open to the possibility that you can reconnect with your little self and your parents through Matrix Birth Reimprinting, to have the perfect birth and bonding experience for you and to take the learnings and move forward in your life.

With loving, gentle guidance you can also recreate the birth you wanted for your children and if you are pregnant, future imprint the birth you want for your baby. What might this change in your and their life?

Enabling gentle loving birth and healing birth trauma is the foundation and the way forward for us all. At the time we were actually in utero and born, or through Matrix Birth Reimprinting.

It matters how we are born (Bergman, 2016).

  • 3 Steps to Take When You Feel Overwhelmed

Do you often feel stressed and overwhelmed in your life?

3 steps you can take to calm and steady yourself

    1.  Start tapping on yourself

Using  2  fingers,  tap on any  or  all of these points

** Tapping Point Graphic by Karl Dawson

    2.   Tune into your body and ask:

If there was a colour that I right feel now, what would that be?

Where in my body do I feel that colour and overwhelm?

Tune into that area in your body    and

pick up on any other energy   /   feelings that may be there

    3.    Now ask yourself:

What colour do I need to feel safe right now?

Think of that colour surrounding you like a comforting, soft, safety blanket,  while you breathe deeply in and out for a count of 6.

Practice and use this, so every time you feel overwhelmed or anxious, you have a strategy to calm and help yourself.
Children can benefit from this too, so teach them what you have learnt so they can discover for themselves how they can regulate their feelings.

  • Meta Health, EFT and Matrix Reimprinting Part 7: So what does a healing session with me look like?

A healing session with me includes aspects from each of Parts 1 - 6 of this article series.

Meta Health analysis   of what  you are experiencing
Your health concerns, symptoms, emotions, associated traumatic events.

Discovering the meaning, your beliefs, and values of what is going on in your life.

Understanding how your body responds (mind, body and brain) within the 2 Phases.

And if the beliefs you hold that underpin every action you take, are actually yours or come from someone else.

Specific Therapy Plan and Conscious Actions:
You will be guided to feel into your experience and what comes up for you.
This may be a memory, a picture / image, sound, smell, taste, a thought, an emotion, or just a sense of something.
I will ask where do you feel it in your body?   And if it has a colour,  a shape,  a size?

In allowing your feelings and sensations, you can
Acknowledge and Validate them,  and with guidance,  Accept them
Realise what they have come to tell you
Recognise the belief and strategy you have repeatedly utilised

When you go to your younger self / your little self,  frozen in the moment of trauma,  how will they feel,  when free from their trapped experience - the time when they felt powerless,  alone,  isolated,  with no strategy?

When you are willing to reach out to your ECHO’s,  and give them a voice,  a way to move through,  and learn from,  their traumatic experiences,  a chance to create a new meaning and belief -  What could the freedom and learning, be for you?

In getting out of your body’s way you can allow healing to occur on many levels - cellular, body organ, mind, brain  …..

For myself, I have been back to many of my ECHO’s.  It is a powerful experience and one of amazing learning and realisation. When something comes up for me,  I go back to my younger self - to my ECHO’s who repeatedly now say,  “You have come to me. I was wondering when you were going to come to me”.  And then together,  myself now and my ECHO then,  explore what was traumatic for them at that time.  Beautiful experiences I cherish. Each creates deeper understanding and personal growth in who I am and what shaped decisions and experiences over my life.

    2 Phases and 8 Milestones

Finding the root cause,  exploring to release & let it go,  guidance to feeling calm, peaceful and light.  In Flow

We go beyond a quick fix to building trust in the body’s wisdom and healing ability

Depending on how you feel, we may ask for guidance from our higher self & divine wisdom (Universe, Source. God ….. - whatever name you wish)    We are energetic beings, and affect and are affected by energy around and within us.

Learning to Understand symptoms, health concerns and why you feel a particular way, decreases fear.  Increasing curiosity and reducing / eliminating fear creates space to grow.

Learn to develop your curiosity in all areas of your life - what has this come to teach you.  What can I learn from this experience.  Self discovery and a sense of self purpose.
    No blame.

  • Meta Health, EFT and Matrix Reimprinting - Part 5: What is EFT - Emotional Freedom Technique

When we are using Matrix Reimprinting I will be guiding you to use an emotional and physical healing tool created by Gary Craig (  http://emofree.com/ ) called Emotional Freedom Technique. EFT, is based on our body’s energy circuits (meridians) traditionally used for thousands of years in acupuncture and many other healing techniques.

When we experience a distressing event that was traumatic for us, our body’s energy system is disrupted. At this time we create an electrical charge and store it within our subconscious mind, a record of the event and a reminder to protect us in case we experience it again in our life. We also form a belief about the world in this moment.

The first event is usually in our early years, from our very beginning as a tiny embryo (or before), our birth, and as a young child when we were learning about our world and our place in it. From there on in our lives, when a memory of that early event is triggered, our body’s energy system is once again disrupted and we also trigger an associated emotion.

An emotion creates a cascade of effects on our body affecting energy flow and chemical changes throughout many body organs and our hormonal system. Basically, if our mind doesn’t or can’t deal with stress, our body will store it. Increasing and overwhelming stress can lead to illness, pain, anxiety, and many other health concerns. This, and our beliefs, also influence the decisions we make throughout our life.

Tapping on specific points on our body, enables us to release energy disruption and emotion in our mind and body.

The graphic image below shows you where these EFT tapping points are.

  • Meta Health, EFT and Matrix Reimprinting - Part 4: Our Response to a Stress Trigger

This is where I introduce you to

    The Meta-Health Two Phases Model

When we experience a something that was a conflict for us - Unexpected,  Dramatic,  Isolating,  and we have No strategy for, our body responds with a ‘biological special programme’.

This scientifically rigorous and reproducible ‘programme’, is a natural science based on five biological laws.

Our mind,  brain  and specific body tissue responds in a precise manner.

We enter Stress Phase (2).  We may now feel and experience body tension,  stress,  obsessive thinking,  sleeplessness,  cooler body,  hands and feet,  nervousness,  and our pulse rate and blood pressure are likely to be elevated.

In Stress phase our Sympathetic Nervous System is active - our fight, flight or freeze response. However, if we are busy in our lives, we may not notice stress phase.

When we take an appropriate action, make a strategy, have a solution present itself, or reconnect with a deeper meaning for our symptoms, we experience the Regeneration Trigger (3)  and enter the Regeneration Phase (4).

We can now feel and experience many symptoms characteristic that our Parasympathetic Nervous System is active - the need to eat, sleep and regenerate. When we have fatigue,  tiredness,  a desire for food,  warmer skin hands and feet,  fever,  a slower pulse and lower blood pressure,  weight gain  and the need to rest and sleep, we are in Regeneration Phase. We usually also experience a sense of relief and difficulty in thinking clearly. Any redness,  heat,  flu,  most joint pains,  skin rashes,  eczema,  headaches,  dizziness and anything diagnosis that ends in ‘itis’,  tells us our body is in Regeneration Phase.

On full resolution we regain our Health (5).

The length of time we are in each phase depends on the intensity and duration of the conflict we experience.

If we are retriggered during any part of this biological process, the path is interrupted. This can lead to chronic or recurring conditions. If we do not find a strategy to regenerate, we remain in the Stress phase.

As you may have realised, this process is occurring simultaneously on many levels and with different body tissues.

    Some examples

    Eczema

Organ: Skin Epidermis (outer layer of our skin)

Stress Trigger Theme:  Separation - Touch we wanted and didn’t have, or unwanted touch

Eczema symptoms come in Regeneration Phase: Hot, inflamed, red, itchy skin

    Common Cold

Stress Trigger Theme:  This stinks or I am fed up with this

In Regeneration Phase we experience a runny nose, sneezing, irritated nasal passages

    Lower back pain

    Organ: Bone / Joints

Stress Trigger Theme:  Self worth - not strong or good enough, worthless

Ask where are you feeling unsupported by others or unable to support yourself

    Stress Phase:  Maybe unnoticed

Regeneration Phase:  Back pain, inflammation, tiredness, fatigue

    Knee pain

Stress Trigger Theme:  Self worth - not strong / good enough

Wanting to kick something or someone away or move forward in an area of our life

Regeneration Phase:  Pain, maybe swelling, decreased function

    Neck pain

Stress Trigger Theme:  Feelings of injustice.

Maybe thoughts and feelings could be traced back to a person or situation where we were treated unfairly

    Pain is in Regeneration

    Tonsillitis

Stress Trigger Theme:  Unable to swallow or accept something

Tonsillitis comes in Regeneration Phase: Red, swollen tonsils, pain on swallowing, fever, feeling very tired

    Overactive Thyroid

Stress Trigger Theme:  Survival issue of being too slow, not quick enough - need to go faster, get things done

Stress Phase symptoms:  Overexcited, nervous, irritable, trouble sleeping, higher blood pressure

    Diabetes

Stress Trigger Theme:  Something resisted, or felt fearful, disgusted and humiliated about

    Conjunctivitis

Stress Trigger Theme:  Visual separation. Lost sight of someone (or pet), loved one moved away, left, died,  or  we were not allowed to see someone  or  we did not want to see someone

Regeneration Phase:  Conjunctivitis (pink eye). Red, burning, itchy, watery eyes. Inflammation also often involves inside of eyelids

    Tinnitus

Stress Trigger Theme:  Not wanting to hear something (social) or needing to hear something (survival).

Tinnitus comes in Stress phase - Ringing, buzzing, humming, whistling, clicking, tinkling, hissing, roaring in the ear.

Tinnitus can also continue into early Regeneration phase

From the above list you will have likely realised that many symptoms come in Regeneration Phase. It is our 2nd biological phase of healing. If we acknowledge our thoughts, feelings and symptoms, and take the action our body is asking us to take - to rest and support healing, we will move through the process faster and with more ease.

In Part 5 we will explore Matrix Reimprinting and EFT

  • Meta Health, EFT and Matrix Reimprinting - Part 3: Further Understanding

    How does our mind work?

We have a conscious mind and a subconscious mind.

    Conscious Mind

With our conscious mind we analyse ourselves and our environment. It is the part of our mind that holds our wishes and desires and it enables us to think in past, present and future.

    Subconscious Mind

Our Subconscious (unconscious) mind is a data base where we have multiple programmes and beliefs running.

We may think ‘we’ are in control but actually 95% of our actions and responses are subconscious.

This part of our mind contains our learned and recorded behaviours, responses and beliefs - programming that shapes our every action. (Joe Dispenza / Bruce Lipton)

Where do we get this from?

From the conclusions and beliefs we make about our experiences.

Much of our subconscious learning is subtle and non verbal, conclusions from powerful learning experiences. We download these from our parents, schools, church, friends, siblings, communities ……

We also learn them from unconscious modelling and repetition.

Much of this occurs in our 1st 6 years of life when our brain does not have any ability to filter information. Everything we experience and perceive to be about ourselves is purely and simply downloaded. Everything from the environment in which we live hardwired into our subconscious mind. And it is this that shapes our thinking and actions from there on.

What about thoughts and emotions - what are these?

Thoughts and emotions are chemical energy that flood our body. Lots of similar thoughts create a belief, and a strong neural pathway in our brain with lots of energy attached.

We continuously sense vibration and energy

Our mind, body and brain function in synchronicity, and together, continuously sense the vibration and energy of our environment and social connections. Newborn babies know this - They, like us as we grow, are always sensing; am I safe or unsafe.

    What about feeling unsafe?

We are designed to sense danger - it is a basic survival need. If we see a tiger, we are meant to fear and activate an immediate survival response. However, in society now, we are triggered so frequently to move into survival fight, flight, freeze responses, and so many people exist in this survival response all the time. Always on alert.

What happens when we have a traumatic experience?

    A ‘shock’ - a distressing event

    Unanticipated       Dramatic      Isolating       No strategy

    3 areas are simultaneously impacted

    1. Our mind

    2. Our Brain - in a very specific area to the shock experienced

    3. A very specific corresponding area in our body

    And a process is activated.

A little part of us freezes in that moment - all nuances of what happened - sounds, smells, sight, tastes, self talk - all recorded in an area of our brain called the Amygdala.

Why does our brain do this?

To protect us.   A strategy to survive.

And at this time we make a belief - ‘its all my fault, mummy doesn't love me, I am bad, not smart, not pretty …… and so on. A belief of how we saw the world in that moment.

Our body responds - if we have no strategy we freeze and a little part of us splits off - trapped in time in that moment. It is recorded in our memory, within our subconscious brain and our field.

From there on, whenever something comes up - a thought, reminder (sound, sight, smell, feeling, taste, self talk), we are retriggered back to that time and the belief strategy we formed in case it happened again. Each time we are retriggered it strengthens the nerve pathway, creating a faster connection.

"Brain cells that fire together, wire together" - a fast connection in our subconscious brain.

And It affects our life without us realising, a programmed response according to the beliefs we hold.

In Part 4 we explore our response to Stress Triggers further.

  • Meta Health, EFT and Matrix Reimprinting - Part 2: How does Meta Health inform us?

Meta health provides us with extensive knowledge

For example, when someone tells me they have a symptom:

Lets say they have pain in their right shoulder,

What is it?    Why is it there?     Well it depends.

    Remember, symptoms are only ‘symptoms’.

So instead of becoming intolerant to them, learn to  listen to what they are telling you, to provide a smoother, quicker flow to wellness.
The sooner you  acknowledgevalidate, and  accept your symptoms and emotions the sooner your body can heal.
You are designed to learn from them so you can become wiser and stronger.

Through using a Meta Health analysis process and asking specific questions, we can gain extensive insight into why a particular symptom or emotion, or thought process is occurring. This insight is linked to empirical evidence and scientific knowledge.

    These questions include:

    1. Are you right or left wired?  This is not necessarily the hand you write with. Our ‘wiredness’ is important as it has specific meaning for the symptomatic area of your body.

    2.  What does the associated part of you do biologically?  Its function in your body.

    3.  What relay of the brain controls that part of the body

This is laid down in your 1st 20 days of life as a tiny embryo.
Each of the 4 main areas (relays) of your brain govern precise organ tissues

    4.  What are the themes, the thoughts and the emotions associated with each specific organ tissue?   The specific ‘secret’ language of your body.

    5.  What is going on in your life when you first felt the symptom / emotion?

    6.  What happened before and since?
For the shoulder, I would ask, where in your life do you feel responsible for  something  -  like carrying a weight on your shoulders.
If part of your body aches,  I would ask,  what did you begin to feel better about just before it started to ache.

    7. If there is swelling it tells me you felt isolated, alone, and abandoned.  Part of your kidney is activated when you feel this.

So now those who understand Meta Health have many answers to these questions and can guide you in your healing.

Short Video: What is Meta-Health about   (From Meta-Health Conference 2017 In India)

In part 3 we will explore how our brain works.

  • Meta Health, EFT and Matrix Reimprinting - Part 1

    An Introduction to Meta Health

Throughout history people have come to look at things differently
New science, new discoveries, new knowledge.
I would like to take you on a journey.
A new understanding of health, wider and deeper
    Linking, exploring, discovering.

    So, What is Meta Health
An analysis process involving the meaning of illness / disease
A method for mind body healing and latest advances for coaching and therapy
    Ancient wisdom and modern science
    ‘Meta’ - the big picture
    Incorporates information from many fields
A foundation for all health professionals
A new paradigm of the future

    Background Understanding
We are social beings and we need our family, our community, and others.
Our body is intelligent and has order and structure
Our body never makes mistakes, and nothing our body does is random.
Dis-ease is a meaningful process - a specific response to a perceived traumatic event - someone yelled at us, hurt us, said something unkind about us or we thought they did, we saw something  …..
Every symptom has a bio - logical and psychological meaning  -
A symptom is our body’s way of telling us something is not right.

Western medicine has generally accepted the connection between stress and illness but has moved away from the root cause for what we are experiencing.

And little is discussed about the connection between our mind, body, spiritual, and social health.

When we experience disconnect from others, we may feel isolated, anxious, and fearful and many other thoughts and feelings, yet so frequently these beliefs and emotions are not addressed.

Our  stress triggers,  emotions,  thoughts,  and beliefs

Impact on our organ tissues, and create specific body responses and symptoms. Though we usually only want to suppress them to make them go away.

What if we could understand our emotions and symptoms and use them as a guidance system.

To embrace them with curiosity. Like a road map connecting what they mean.

In Part 2 we will look at how Meta Health provides us with the knowledge to understand our symptoms and emotions.

  • Our Body’s Response to Overwhelm

Feeling overwhelm is known to most of us.

That feeling or state when we experience intense emotion that is difficult to manage and affects our ability to think and act rationally or perform efficiently. 1

    WHAT SITUATIONS CREATE OVERWHELM

When too much is happening and we can’t keep up

    Outside influences we cannot comprehend

Society and others expectations that are not congruent to us

    Something out of our control

    Traumatic experiences

Many new parents, especially mums experience overwhelm post childbirth. Being a new parent is an amazingly powerful experience. However, the incredible feeling of protection for this new little being, the intense learning and a variety of emotions never before experienced, meeting the needs of your new baby, extreme tiredness, the desire to be the perfect mum or dad, demands of others - other children, family, friends, perceived society expectations, and financial concerns, all add to the intense degree of overwhelm you may experience.

Overwhelm also increases when we are tired and fatigued. Those suffering the frustration of chronic or adrenal fatigue become aware how quickly overwhelm can affect them.

Post concussion or head injury creates a syndrome where individuals experience an overwhelming sense of physical and mental fatigue. Like any nerve injury, the injured brain takes time to heal and will not be rushed. One may be able to complete simple tasks and routine activities within a quiet environment but when the brain is asked to do more, it ‘shuts down’.

WHAT IS HAPPENING IN OUR BODY WHEN WE FEEL OVERWHELMED?

The body and brain is saying ‘enough’, you are no longer going to do whatever it is you are doing. The brain will shut down its thinking part, the frontal cortex, and revert to the subconscious brain. Many call this brain fog, foggy brain syndrome, or if pre or post birth, baby brain. The extent of overwhelm stress, dictates how much shut down of non vital brain functions will occur. We find it difficult to remember and think clearly, which then increases our vulnerability and leads to varying degrees of anxiety, fatigue and tiredness. In extreme circumstances just the vital centres of the brain stem, that part of our brain that deals with our survival, will remain operational and we find ourselves in a fight, flight or freeze response.

WHY DOES OUR BODY DO THIS?

When we are stressed to such a degree as to affect our survival, our body will take the necessary action to protect us. Innately our cells want to survive and they know how to do this. So our body is constantly assessing, are we safe or unsafe? When we feel unsafe, we activate our stress response and switch off non essential functions.

    A PROCESS OF TWO PHASES

        Overwhelm can be understood

        by looking at

the two phases that are occurring 2

         _________________________________

When we are stressed, our mind, body, and brain is in Stress Phase and the sympathetic part of our autonomic nervous system is active. We are physically and psychologically busier, our mind is constantly thinking about the issue concerning us, we feel      nervous, tense, our hands and feet are cooler, our heart beat and breathing rate is faster, and we usually find it difficult to sleep. In most instances, this stress activates a response from an earlier traumatic memory in our life, hidden deep within our subconscious.

When we find a solution to the problem, a Regeneration Trigger is activated and we enter Regeneration Phase. Now our parasympathetic nervous system takes control and our body, mind and brain rests. We feel tired, our thinking becomes more fuzzy and confused, our heart rate and breathing slows, our hands and feet feel warmer, and we may feel a sense of relief. Headaches are also typical of this phase.

Ongoing stress and overwhelm invariably leads to physical illness.

Understanding our body response to overwhelm can help us pay attention and know it is just a process.

A clever biological response trying to keep us safe and in better health.

    HOW CAN WE HELP OURSELVES?

    • Be aware of your thoughts, feelings, emotions, stress triggers, and beliefs
    • Recognise and respond appropriately to your body’s needs  3

    • Rest when you need to
    • Eat food that nurtures and nourishes your body
    • Get out into the sunshine and fresh air
    • Drink plenty of fresh clean water over the day and each morning drink 2 full glasses of water. Healing in our body occurs in a fluid environment - bringing vital nutrients to cell and removing waste products

    • Develop a morning and evening ritual that calms and relaxes you:

Find and express gratitude for everything you have and are

Do gentle exercise to start and finish your day - stretches, Yoga, Qi gong, Tai chi,

Meditation, walking in nature. warm bath with added Magnesium (Epsom Salts) …

    • Any time you begin to feel overwhelmed, stop, and while breathing deeply in and out for a count of 6, visualise a place or memory comforting to you
    • Schedule important or more stressful tasks at times when you have more energy
    • Avoid overload
    • Consider keeping a weekly planner and fatigue journal
    • Exercise, especially what you enjoy, increases oxygenation to your cells and aids ability to think
    • Take time to rest, reflect and calm yourself even if a only for few minutes several times a day
    • In the evening at least an hour before sleep, turn off all electronic screens and wifi, avoid bright lighting, consider wearing blue blocker glasses, have a warm bath, listen to calming music, meditate ….. whatever calms and settles you
    • Go to bed before 10 pm and aim for minimum 8 hours sleep at night

    • Talk with caring empathetic others - family or friends
    • Learn to say ‘no’ when others expect more than you want to give
    • Learn to love, accept, and forgive yourself
    • Discover your inner child, the little one inside you who remembers how to play, laugh and create the fun activities you enjoy

    • Find what excites you, something that ‘makes your heart sing’ and practice it every day.

There is much you can do yourself but when traumatic memories arise, the help of an experienced practitioner may be the most gentle and therapeutic path to restoring your health    Contact Nurturing Naturally Coaching, Matrix Reimprinting

  • Hashimoto's Thyroiditis - A New Path of Learning and Discovery (Part 4)

Understanding the Mind - Body - Brain

    connection in Hashimoto’s within

      2 phases and

      8 milestones approach 1

    7. LIFESTYLE

Our values are reflected in our lifestyle, the priorities we have and how we live on a day to day basis. What food we eat, our nutritional status, the balance of our work, family time, social time, rest, sleep, exercise, time in nature, fun times, times of relaxation and discovering ourselves spiritually. Keeping our body healthy, active with high vitality increases our resilience and life force and decreases imbalances and susceptibility to infections. Healing Hashimoto’s requires a deep look at our lifestyle.

NUTRITION plays a major role in Hashimoto’s. One of the first areas to look at are the foods that are keeping you sick. If you have an autoimmune disorder, you will have leaky gut 7, 10, 14, 19. Gluten is a major contributor to leaky gut and all research I have explored shows it needs to be eliminated from the diet.

Gluten and thyroid tissue have a similar structure so any gluten 10, 14, 20 can be problematic for your thyroid tissue for 12 months 14. Casein the protein molecule in dairy products, is the second biggest problem food in Hashimoto’s and evidence strongly suggests also removing this from your diet. 7, 19

Other foods may be problematic for many thyroid and other auto immune disorders. Dr. Sarah Ballantyne on her website ‘The Paleo Mom’ 21 provides a guide of foods to focus on and to eliminate for 2 to 3 weeks then reintroduce many back one at a time while you monitor your body’s response. 21. With initial removal of foods creating leaky gut, and allowing the gut to heal, then trying each food, you can find out if a particular food is right for you or not.

Choose your food wisely. Avoid those sprayed with pesticides, and chemicals and all genetically modified ‘food’ (GMO). Be aware of the ‘Dirty dozen’ and ‘Clean 15’ fruit and vegetables 22. Avoid additives in your food, and guar gums (which reduces the enzyme activity of your body’s Alkaline Phosphatase).

Where ever possible choose a wide variety of organic, nutrient dense, unprocessed real food with plenty of greens vegetables to keep your blood sugar balanced. Food that nourishes our body, increases our vitality, and resilience to infections and creates more balance in our microbiome. 7

To help your body repair, you will likely at least initially, need to add certain supplements to help your body regain the levels depleted, to correct imbalances and provide for increased nutritional requirements.

We obtain Vitamin D from the sun but in winter when the sun is lower in the sky we are unable to get enough from the sun in many countries that are further from the equator. During summer months get out into the sun daily without sunblock for 30 minutes, 45 minutes for dark skinned people. Supplement of Vitamin D3 may only be needed in winter depending on your Vitamin D blood tests. Vitamin K2 (MK-7 best) works in synergy with vitamin D, and you need both in adequate amounts for optimal health. 23

Many with Hashimoto’s and adrenal fatigue have low stomach acid, a necessary component for our body to break down and digest protein. This can lead to depletion of “amino acids, iron, Vitamin B12, zinc and other nutrients” we obtain from protein 7. If you experience gas, heartburn, bloating, and heaviness in your stomach after eating protein you may have low stomach acid 7. Supplementing with these minerals and vitamins may be necessary. Betaine with Pepsin taken after a protein rich meal, and lemon juice and / or apple cider vinegar taken mid meal, may help produce more stomach acid 7.

Your body also requires increased protein intake for all aspects of healing. In Hashimoto’s and chronic illness, body protein levels are continually being depleted. Choose high protein foods and if necessary supplement with amino acids to provide what your body needs to build tissue, regenerate and heal.

Other mineral and vitamins to support healthy thyroid function include Selenium, Magnesium, Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Vitamin A. Eating foods rich in all minerals and vitamins is important with or without supplementing. Other supplements that may be beneficial include N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC), Adrenal adaptogens, Glutamine, Curcumin, and Probiotics. 7, 19

Eating iodine and selenium rich foods is important as iodine is necessary to make thyroid hormone. Iodine intake and taking iodine supplements is an area of discussion within Hashimoto’s researchers 7, 24, 25, 26, and is certainly a discussion topic with your health practitioner to ensure you have the right balance of iodine and selenium for your body’s needs.

Whether those with Hashimoto’s will also need thyroid hormone medication depends on their symptoms and laboratory tests. As Izabella Wentz states, “ while medication does not address the root cause, it is a crucial step to feeling better and reversing the negative effects of hypothyroidism on the body” 7.

When choosing supplements, check labels for what is actually in each supplement, do your research and be informed by knowledgeable nutritionists, doctors and others, to ensure the right supplement and dosage for you and to avoid further ingesting substances that may be harmful to your body.

Anthony William provides a range of foods, herbs and supplements to support healing and repair of the thyroid and immune system in his book 'Medical Medium' 27. He also writes that the body does not attack itself and that invasion of the thyroid gland by Epstein Barr Virus in Stage Three is the cause of Hashimoto’s.

ADEQUATE RESTFUL REJUVENATING SLEEP Most of us need at least 7 - 9 hours sleep a night. When we are healing we will likely need more plus rest time during the day. Truly listening to your body will guide you.

Reduce lighting pre sleep time, avoid any screen time at least an hour before (TV, computer, phone, electronic devices), find restful activities that prepare you for sleep (relaxing bath, quiet meditation), avoid stimulating drinks and any food several hours pre sleep. Unplug electronic devices, and turn of Wifi at night to reduce exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF) that disrupt our life force. Consider a land line telephone so you are less exposed to electromagnetic frequencies.

Night is our circadian rhythms time for regeneration to rest and digest food and information and reset our system to prepare us for the next day.

CALMING MINDFUL ACTIVITIES such as Yoga, Qi Gong, Tai Chi, Meditation, time to discover yourself, time in nature - sun, trees, sea, water environments, can reenergise and balance the body, mind and soul. How can you reset your mind towards peace and harmony each day?

EXERCISE YOU ENJOY, walks, moving your body in ways that strengthen you physically and mentally. Gentle initially then building as your stamina increases. Find what suits you. Time on your own and / or fun time with others sharing your activity.

BALANCE OF WORK AND PLAY. Taking a break at least every hour you work to stretch and move has been shown to increase productivity time. Do you bring your work home with you? Is your home a place you can relax and do something for yourself each day without constant demands of others? Prioritise space and time to enjoy your leisure activities, to laugh and have fun. Consider how you start your day and plan time for each activity you need to keep you healthy and balanced. Reassess your priorities regularly and adjust accordingly.

    8. LIFE GOALS

What are your goals in life, your mission, your passion. What makes your heart sing?

When our body has been stressed to its threshold it will ‘shut you down’. This is for our survival. When we have been going in the wrong direction for too long our body will say enough.

We don’t have to wait that long before we look at our life and future. If we can learn to stop, to rest, have nourishing food that meets our individual needs, loving care and connection, to take the time to regenerate and heal, we have the chance to look at where we are going and what we truly want in life.

To learn the art of being present, and allowing who you are and what you want to flow into your experiences, is truly a gift to yourself and others. Enjoying the process and taking the time to find your life goals is the 8th milestone in your healing. _____________________________________________________________________________________

For me, learning I have an autoimmune disease and subclinical Hashimoto’s, has provided knowledge I would not otherwise have had. It involves curiosity and self discovery.

I have been fortunate to have very few symptoms, unlike many who have known they were ill for years. Who have consulted numerous doctors, one after another, only to be told they are fine, and offered medications without ever knowing why they have no energy, feel crazy and so sick. My heart goes out to each.

My mission is to provide knowledge, gentle loving supportive care, and to restore hope. To know there is a way forward for you to ease your suffering, to follow your dreams and live the life of your choosing. _____________________________________________________________________________________

Understanding the Mind - Body - Brain

    connection in Hashimoto’s within a

      2 phases and

      8 milestones approach 1

    4. STRESS TRIGGERS

Stress - daily life stressors and those that impact on us are wide and varied. Stress can turn on genetic mutations, and stress itself, whether emotional or physical, increases the likelihood of autoimmunity.10

    a) Traumatic times in our life, the things that happen to us, the things we saw and heard, things we decided were about us, comments and actions from others, and many social norms we learnt as young children, are all stress triggers. Depending on our perception at the time, they affect the actions and decisions we make on a daily basis and usually we are totally unaware how much they affect our lives.

From a mind - body - brain perspective, the root cause of Hashimoto’s is an unexpected, dramatic, and isolating traumatic event in our life around our self-worth of not being able to cope or trust, plus a recurring powerlessness / fear struggle and / or, a of being too slow, not fast enough conflict issue.1, 4, 11

Rock Robbins,12 writes of some common themes seen in women with Hashimoto’s - ultra productive, caring and dynamic individuals who make life happen within their family and community. He also writes that many have had some sort of abuse, neglect or injury in their childhood and “because of that old baggage, they’ve got their own internal mental circus going on – and one of the main issues they deal with is performing for their worth. That means they’ll bypass their inner signals to ‘stop in the name of health’ and keep going so that she can keep being worthy of love”. He also writes of women with Hashimoto’s dealing with “issues of trust, self-rejection, fear, perfectionism, control, and guilt that sticks like glue. They’re almost always ‘on’ – taking care of everybody”.

As we have established our body does not attack itself. The cells of the thyroid gland are purely responding and adapting to the circumstances they are in. Within a loving and supportive environment such as with an experienced practitioner, we need to ask ourself: how, when and why was I not true to myself, and / or when did I allow others to influence me, denying my own self worth, thoughts or feelings.13

    b) Toxins and the environment we are exposed to, overload, overwhelm and stress our body, destroy our gut and body microbiome essential to life, and lower our vitality (life force). In managing Hashimoto’s we need to become aware of toxins and our environment and step by step address what we eat, drink, breathe, put on and into our body, clean our homes with, how we move, and our interaction with others. 3, 7, 14, 15, 16

Adopt a detective perspective and ask, is this substance safe for my body? As Dr Voidani 14 states, detect your biomarkers of autoimmunity and environmental triggers. Remove the triggers and make changes to halt your body’s immune response. And use all available ways to repair your immune system.

    5. BELIEFS

What we believe dictates the reality we experience and the actions we take. What we choose to eat, our lifestyle, our values, our responses, all depend on our beliefs.

Where did the beliefs we act on come from and do they actually serve us? Are they based on truth or on a distorted view down loaded to and by us when we were young? Exploring our experiences and learning what beliefs are running our subconscious mind (our subconscious programme) can provide new meaning in our Hashimoto’s healing journey.

When we experience a traumatic event, we create a belief about what happened, to protect us in case we experience it again in the future. If we are repeatedly re-triggered, that belief is constantly reinforced.

In his presentation at the 2016 Matrix Reimprinting Convention, Dr Bruce Lipton explains that “your belief carries more power than your reality”,17 and that you can change the images in your subconscious in order to create new empowering beliefs. “Change your belief system and you will change your life. You will change your genetics. You will change every characteristic of your life. You are not a victim of anything more than the belief you were programmed with”. Powerful words from Dr Lipton.17, 18

Our empowerment is in our ability to reframe previous beliefs and change how our mind, brain and body responds.

    6. SOCIAL

As humans we are social beings and need love and connection with others to survive and to reach our greatest potential of health. In exploring stress triggers of Hashimoto’s we identified issues around our self worth and not being able to cope or trust. An essential component of this milestone of healing is to learn to deeply love and accept ourselves. And to be the loving friend to yourself, non judgemental or critical, you would expect and choose from any other. The opposite of what led us down the path of autoimmunity. Loving ourselves and sharing that love and connection with others brings so much joy, gratitude and happiness. Learn to connect with, to listen to and love your inner child at every stage of his / her life.

Surround yourself with energy that is positive for you so you feel less vulnerable. Spend time with those who support you in your healing journey - loved ones, family, friends, support groups, someone you can talk to, who will listen, acknowledge, love, cry, laugh with you. Those you feel safe with, who care and understand and can guide you through your fluctuating and changing experiences.

When we have a traumatic shock, part of what makes it traumatic is feeling isolated from others. When we perceive we are alone, without our clan, an evolutionary biological process involving the kidney is activated and water is retained in the body. My years of caring for patients, as a nurse in intensive care, repeatedly demonstrated their mind, brain, body response to feeling alone and abandoned, ‘a fish out of water’ in an evolutionary sense, and the resultant water retention that occurred. Positive supportive energy and connection with loved ones helps us on our healing journey when we are ill and lessens feelings of isolation.

As you regain your energy and understand your fears, you may feel safe and ready to reach out a little further to wider social experiences. Learning to cope, trust and restore your self worth step by step.

Do what you need to connect with higher powers, the universe, or whatever your source of inspiration is on waking each day and whenever you feel the need for more love flowing through you. Find what you need to feel safe, secure, nurtured and loved - the state of being integral to the Nurturing Naturally NZ website.

Understanding the Mind - Body - Brain

    connection in Hashimoto’s within a

      2 phases and

      8 milestones approach 1

    1. SYMPTOMS

Symptoms are our body’s way of telling us all is not well. We would be well advised to listen and pay attention.

As mentioned in Part 1, symptoms include cycles of hyperthyroid - anxiety, insomnia, diarrhoea, weight loss followed by periods of depression, fatigue, constipation, weight gain (hypothyroid). Many more may also be experienced “300+ Hypothyroid symptoms”3.

Awareness of the mind - brain - body connection 1, 4 enhances our healing, removes fear of symptoms and enables us to understand why the body is responding in a particular way.

When we are in stress phase (active conflict) we may not be aware of symptoms as we are too busy. This is the time when we have compulsive thinking, feel restless, our body temperature is colder, and we experience sleep difficulties as we focus on trying to make sense of what happened.

When we find a solution for the shock we experienced (our regeneration trigger), we enter the regeneration phase of healing. Now we can experience many symptoms. This is the phase of inflammation, swelling, pain, and heat in our body, fever, and fatigue. Our thoughts become more fuzzy and we may have headaches. We now tend to pay attention, as we are meant to - our body is telling us to nourish, rest and repair.

If the traumatic event (conflict) is repeated, healing is interrupted. Multiple re-triggering creates a chronic process and the cycling symptoms of Hashimoto’s.

Understanding and acceptance of this natural biological process without fear empowers us to support our healing and restoration of our health. We can also reduce our symptoms in many other ways from the food we eat, resting, calming ourselves, and a wide range of techniques and therapies for example Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT5) and Matrix Reimprinting 6.

    2. ORGAN TISSUE

Primarily, Hashimoto’s is a disease of the immune response, then the thyroid gland. When these two systems are involved, the whole body is potentially affected as the thyroid gland produces hormones that regulate our metabolic rate and influence every other organ function. The adrenal glands, cortisol levels, ‘leaky gut’ and certain body enzymes are also intricately associated. 7

Nourishing and supporting the body is vital and includes working with the body’s energy system. Learning to sense and feel our energy can guide us in creating balance, optimum health, joy and vitality (Donna Eden 8). Visualising, feeling, focusing breathing and connection with the thyroid gland and sending love and gratitude, can get congested energy moving.

    3. EMOTIONS

Our emotions, central in our thoughts, feelings, beliefs and actions, are signals that flood our system and affect the chemistry and electricity of every body cell and the world outside us (Candice Pert 9). Everything we experience and feel in our life is stored in our subconscious mind. A memory frozen in time, with all the nuances of sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and feelings remembered depending on the impact of each sense. Our emotions are subjective and are based on our own unique perception, a way to help us communicate what we feel about certain situations, people, and things.

The emotions usually associated with Hashimoto’s are around our self worth (pride and shame), and fear / anxiety. For some this fear is of something or someone coming towards us which we are unable to do anything about, feeling of being vulnerable, helpless and powerless. Others may experience the need to go faster, do better, due to the fear of what happens if we are not quick or smart enough. Emotions such as grief, anger, bitterness may also arise.

From a mind - brain - organ root cause perspective, feeling, exploring, and releasing the emotions attached to traumatic memories is an essential part of the healing process. Techniques such as Matrix Reimprinting and Emotional Freedom Technique, are gentle, loving, caring ways to explore traumatic experiences, to transform beliefs and gain new meaning, resolution and healing.

  • Hashimoto's Thyroiditis - A New Path of Learning and Discovery (Part 1)

Thyroid Imbalance within a Mind Body Brain Perspective

Our life is an endless path of learning, an evolving journey of personal growth and development, a discovery of who we are, and the beliefs we hold. Each step provides the opportunity to look at what shapes us to be our individual unique self.

Mid April (2016), I visited a General Practitioner (GP), Naturopathic doctor, not because I was sick, but because I was curious to know how my health could be further improved. How were the vague, and not so vague, symptoms I was experiencing impacting on my health and wellbeing. Our discussion, energy testing (Kinesiology), and my blood test results, revealed information I needed to know.

Blood tests showed positive Antibodies (ANA) and mildly elevated Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies (TPO Ab). Other thyroid tests were within normal range. My blood levels of Vitamin D, Zinc, Vitamin B12, and Ferritin were low (typical for many with Hashimoto’s), and Copper was high in ratio to Zinc (these two body minerals need to be in balance in our body. High in one will create low in the other).

Kinesiology revealed casein (dairy - milk products), soy, and a few other foods, at this time are not best for my body.

    HASHIMOTO’S FROM A MEDICAL PERSPECTIVE

Thyroid Peroxidase (TPO) is the enzyme responsible for the production of thyroid hormones. Antibodies to TPO tell us the body’s immune system is ‘attacking’ the thyroid gland tissue. Over 90% of people who have Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis have TPO antibodies and approximately 80% will have another thyroid antibody named Thyroglobulin (TgAb).1 Thyroglobulin is a protein present in the thyroid gland from which thyroid hormones are produced.

The medical perpectiveauto describes autoimmune condition as ‘an attack against self’. “Normally the immune system differentiates between self and non self. It reacts against foreign substances but not against itself. When the mechanism breaks down, the immune system attacks its own tissue”. When one autoimmune response occurs it is common for there to also be another. 2

Nearly everyone with an autoimmune disease has Leaky Gut Syndrome so addressing your ‘leaky gut’ is a major step in reversing symptoms of autoimmune disease. 3. In her online article Dr Wilson (2015) links leaky gut and stress as the two reasons for the increasing incidence of Hashimoto’s. 4

The stress in our lives and our body exposure to many toxins from a wide variety of sources will be addressed in part 3 of this article.

For me, it appears I am within the first Subclinical or ‘Silent Autoimmunity’ stage of Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis.

    Stages

In stage one, ’silent’ Hashimoto’s, the antibodies are present in blood 10 - 15 years before symptoms arise. What a wonderful opportunity to prevent further progression.

The 2nd stage is where some dysfunction is occurring such as headaches, muscle aches, and fatigue but how many people see this as just a part of daily life and stress.

When antibodies and cells start affecting the tissues, stage three has been entered. Now people will likely see a doctor. Unfortunately many conventional doctors do not order nor interpret the laboratory testing needed for Hashimoto’s diagnosis, a sad and repeated story for so many people with Hashimoto’s. As you will see, there is much one can do about halting the progress of thyroid destruction. (Thank you Dr Aristo Vojdani, and the Hashimoto’s Awareness Summit for information on the three stages of Hashimoto’s 2.)

It is estimated 50 million people in the USA have autoimmune (according to autoimmune association http://www.aarda.org/autoimmune-information/autoimmune-statistics/) and it is believed that a similar number have silent autoimmune. The impact on the lives of individuals, their families, their community, their country, health budgets and humanity is huge.

    Understanding blood tests

An important point in understanding blood test results is in their interpretation. The range of supposed normal is not necessarily the ideal for our body. There is a marked difference in the interpretation integrative, functional, holistic and or naturopathic doctors use as to what is ideal for healthy body function and individual requirements when compared to conventional medical practice.

Laboratory Tests you need your doctor to order to diagnose and monitor Hashimoto’s: TSH, Free T4, Free T3, Thyroid antibodies - Anti-Tg Antibodies and Anti-TPO Antibodies.

    Further Information

“Why Do I Still Have Thyroid Symptoms? When my Lab Tests Are Normal” by Dr Datis Kharrazian,5 is an enlightening read, as is “Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis” by Izabella Wentz 1. I also wish to acknowledge the work of Pearl, Fabienne and the team at Hashimoto’s Awareness 6 and, the Hashimoto’s Summit they presented with world wide experts (June 2016).

My particular interest in Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis is from a mind - body - brain perspective, embedded in my belief we respond to the environment we live in and our body does not make mistakes. Interestingly, during my Meta-Health training 2 years ago, I felt compelled to explore a Hashimoto’s question we were given. Did my body and subconscious mind already know I needed to understand this?

    HASHIMOTO’S FROM A MIND - BODY - BRAIN PERSPECTIVE

Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis is a name for a pattern involving the thyroid gland (and the adrenal gland usually).7

Hashimoto’s thyroiditis or chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis is a chronic inflammation process, an autoimmune disease, in which the thyroid gland responds within a variety of cell and antibody-mediated immune processes.

Hashimoto’s is primarily an AutoImmune condition. Antibodies belong to the lymphatic system, indicating that there is more at hand than just thyroid. Hypothyroidism is a secondary symptom, stemming from repeated experiences and the strategies derived from them.7

Having an autoimmune condition is not something to fear but something to learn from. Your body is not attacking itself. It would never do this. The cells of the body are purely responding and adapting to something, an underlying problem. Understanding this response opens an empowering journey of learning and discovery.

From a mind - body - brain perspective, the autoimmune response relates to a traumatic time, usually early in our life, around our self-worth of not being able to cope or trust, involving the Lymphatic system. Plus a traumatic conflict specific to the thyroid.

The experienced trauma, individual and unique to the person, is always unanticipated, dramatic and isolating for them.

For the thyroid to react the conflict theme is either about:

    1. A recurring powerlessness / fear struggle. I am powerlessness and fearful of something / someone coming towards me, vulnerable, not safe and I can’t do anything about it.

    2. A recurring survival issue of being too slow, not quick enough with the need to go faster.

    3. Both 1 & 2.

For me personally, the recurring conflict is about being driven to get things done, not slowing down - and when associated with an attack against self, its like the body takes on a biological purpose to slow you down so you can rest and regenerate - slow down the thyroid and then you will not go so fast as survival depends on it. But it keeps trying to put out more hormones amongst the destruction - hence the cycling response and symptoms.

    Two Phases:

Stress (Active Conflict) Phase: The thyroid cells release more hormones. (more hormones to try to help us cope). This initial over reaction of the thyroid creates hyperthyroid symptoms including overexcited, nervous, irritable, anxiety, insomnia, diarrhoea, and weight loss.

When a solution is found to the experienced conflict, Regeneration (Healing) Phase occurs. This is the phase of inflammation (thyroiditis) with typical symptoms of fatigue, needing to rest and sleep, depression, constipation, and weight gain.

Recurring conflict relapses lead to ongoing stress and regeneration cycling, - back and forth between the hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism symptoms, and gradual destruction of the gland itself that eventually results in the thyroid's inability to produce sufficient thyroid hormones (hypothyroidism).

Thyroiditis and elevation of antibodies may also be accompanied by symptoms of hair loss, muscle/joint aches and pains, sinusitis, fertility problems and many more.

I am grateful to learn of my autoimmune status now while subclinical. It is a gift and an opportunity to explore and learn what this means and what I can do to support my healing.

As I firmly believe that healing comes from within, and no one can heal us, I take full responsibility for my own health. Yes we need others to guide, love and support us but the ultimate process of healing is ours. It will always be our journey, our decisions, our choices.

For me, this was not a shock, but a curiosity. The ‘shock’ was what activated my body to respond in this way in the first place.

The Mind - Body - Brain connection 8. 9, 10 and Meta-Health9, 10 provides me with the framework to explore further. The two phases and eight milestones of healing are central to this and guide each step.

    Part 2, 3 & 4, explores Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis within a Meta-Health 8 milestone approach.

  • Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

  • My Story – Gaylene Hansen - A Journey

Life is full of experiences which seem to arise to teach us, and they can lead us down a different path to the one we had intended. For me, this occurred in the latter half of 2011 when I had what I name a ‘wake up call’. Occipital headaches and a congested ‘muzzy’ head became constant and my blood pressure started to rise. These symptoms were compounded by a reaction to fluorescent lights which threatened my career as a nurse, something I deeply cherish and love.

Why did I get the headaches, congestion and reaction to fluorescent lights?

A busy life without enough self time, constantly changing shift work, and repeated perceived concerns, weakened my vitality, immune and endocrine systems and increased my sensitivity to ‘the lights’. Basically, my body was stressed. I later learned that the lymph flow in my head was restricted, contributing to my soaring blood pressure and causing my pupils to become slightly unequal. My adrenal and pituitary glands were struggling to maintain equilibrium.

Then fear…….. fear of going  out and being exposed to fluorescent lighting, (trying to hide under a peaked cap and dark glasses, turning off ‘the lights’ whenever possible), fear of what this meant in my life, fear of how this would affect my family, our income and if I could ever work as a nurse again. I became self absorbed and felt very vulnerable.

Why did I get my wake up call?

To wake me up and to get me to listen. October 30th 2011 was the final stress. I was working in Special Care Baby Unit and had just started phototherapy treatment for a little neonate with jaundice - blue double fluorescent lights at the level of my head. My body’s reaction: “you are going to listen to me. I have been trying to tell you for months and you are now going to pay attention - I am shutting you down”

    Well it worked. I stopped!!

The first 5 weeks off work, I rested and struggled, trying to make sense of it all within a state of fear and continual headaches. I rested a lot, quietly pottered in my vegetable garden, played music to try to calm my head, went for walks with a friend, and had long talks with my daughter and my husband who understood, and always listened and supported me. I increased my water intake, took supplements (Co enzyme Q10, calcium, magnesium, vitamin B), tried homeopathic remedies, and ate foods that calmed, and lowered blood pressure and stress. Although I saw a neuro specialist and had some tests, I knew I would follow my own path back to full health. I also believed that my reaction to ‘the lights’ had come - and would go again.

I then went for a massage and got much more - a healing massage and a referral to an amazing Body Talk practitioner. My first body talk session was an emotionally powerful healing experience. For the first time in my life I could close my eyes and just ‘zone out’ to a peaceful state of calm, a state with no thought. I woke in the middle of that night, felt the headache and heard a voice say ‘zone out’ then ‘zone in’. I looked inward. A fuzzy flowing colourful ball was in the place of my headache, I just ‘observed’ as it moved and paused at each place in my body, from the top of my head to the base of my spine.  At this time I had no knowledge of chakras, or their colours, but I knew I had experienced something deep and powerful. The headache changed and moved to the base of my skull.

6 weeks later, at my 4th and final body talk session I knew I was almost healed. I was calm, present in the moment, noticing so much more and was no longer a multi tasker (I had been brilliant at it my husband says but I know it was very tiring for anyone else. He also noted that I was beginning to use my right brain much more). Three homeopathic remedies helped me when the anxiety and muzzy headache re-appeared (Arnica, Argentum Nitricum and Aconite). My journey to seek information, to discover, intensified. I started to ‘devour’ everything I could find on mind, body, spiritual healing. I read the “Anastasia Ringing Cedar” series of books and grew. I returned to work, slowly increasing my hours, and made a decision that work did not come home. I rested, slept a lot, learnt to meditate and looked at life with a new vision. Many of my beliefs changed and I became clearer and more confident. My reaction to fluorescent lights disappeared.

I now understand that fear puts us into survival mode - fight, flight, freeze - and shuts down our frontal cortex thinking. During my early healing time I would feel a pressure, an ache, a memory at the back of my head whenever I dared to talk about my experience but it lessened as I grew stronger and when I silently acknowledged “I know, you didn’t like that but it’s ok now”. When a symptom, emotion or feeling arises it is our body’s signal to stop, to listen, and ask “what are you trying to tell me?”

Over the past 2 years I have explored many exciting avenues. One learning discovery led to another. Meditation, the ‘miracle of mindfulness’, Body Talk Access, my ongoing Tai Chi, beginning Qi Gong, a healing course (colours, sounds, ‘body rock’, spirit guides, body and universal energy and how we can tap into this and more….), Reiki, Mind Matrix, Silva Intuition, EFT, Abraham-Hicks, organic nutrition, yoga, and ………., and the discovery of neuroscience and quantum physics linking it all together further expanded my thinking and a path to knowing that everything is connected………

I am deeply grateful for my wake up call, my healing and spiritual path had been trying to evolve for many years, I just hadn’t understood how much I needed to grow and become me.

Gaylene Hansen - My Story - Written December 2013

Now in February, 2016, as my journey continues, I am adding to this story.

In October 2013, I strained my left knee, a few twinges felt while dancing, and began a healing process that led me on a further path of discovery. Through exploring the meaning of knees and my history of varying knee issues over many years, I became aware of the wider significance of my body’s response. I knew previously that our body holds emotions and memories in our organs, tissues and specific body areas but I hadn’t linked this to my knee.

And it was then I felt gratitude, a thank you to my knee for guiding me on my next path and providing further self understanding. I had known for some time I was supposed to be doing something more in my life, my purpose for being here. A further body talk session exposed my concern of being ‘out there’ ‘showing myself’ and my need to move ahead out of fear to courage, allowing myself to be seen, to feeling energy and the connection into energy for expansion.

It was at this time I learnt of META-Health, a new health paradigm, the art and science that focusses on the body’s ability to heal itself. Now, I knew I had found something exciting that roused a passion from within. The connection of my love of nursing, of babies and their families and possibilities of what can be.

Qualifying as a practitioner with META-Health University was another beginning and wanting more, I embarked on deepening my understanding of healing and the mind, body, brain, social connection, within Master Practitioner, and the next step, META-Health Speaker which enables me to teach 1 - 2 hour workshops. Within META training, we learn of several different therapies. EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) and Matrix Reimprinting especially captured my attention and I have now also qualified as a Matrix Reimprinting Practitioner, which for me goes hand in hand with META-Health. My passion for nurturing neonates and their families both in my work as a neonatal nurse and within META-Health is deepening further with Matrix Birth Reimprinting and how our early life experiences influence how we perceive and interact with our world.

I know I will always want to learn, to grow, and become my authentic self.

  • META-Health Conference 2015 Hawaii

In October, I was privileged to meet with many of my META-Health colleagues at Waikiki Beach, Hawaii for the 2015 META-Health Conference.

Wow, what an inspiring 5 days of presentations and workshops. I attended and loved it all. A repeated theme in many presentations is the need for us to be truly authentic to ourselves. Also the need to support our micro biome, an area the medical profession is finally now beginning to pay attention to, that Christa Krahnert (Naturopathic Doctor, Australia) and Dr Diana Stefani-Hunyadi and L.J Hunyadi (USA) explored.

I loved Lars Mygind (Denmark) words, in his presentation titled ‘Stress, triggers, disease and symptoms), of wanting the optimal life not the normal. Gary Craig, founder of EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) shared with us his latest advancement of EFT, Optimal EFT and ‘The Unseen Therapist’ - the exquisite sense of love and spiritual awareness we can bring to our clients.

With his amazing opthalmic knowledge Dr Kwesi Anan Odum (Germany), provided insight into the mystery and meaning behind conditions of the eye and their link to being our authentic to self. The most important question in our life is ‘how do you see yourself’. In his second presentation of the ‘Eleven Principles of Harmony’ Dr Kwesi explored ancient Egyptian wisdom and its connection for us in META-Health - our need for inner peace, to be united with each other and in our environment, to feel and give joy, to create, love and nurture, to be good leaders, and to experience freedom in choosing or not choosing to follow our emotions.

Susanne Billander (Sweden / Costa Rica) emphasised our need to express our divine blueprint and ‘The Five Elements’ we need to build our abundant self - to strip off everything we are not - to ‘get naked’ (Metal), to create our tribe (Water), to lead by following our inner compass (Wood), to show and act on our unique passion (Fire), and to feeling nurtured, supported and safe (Earth).

Christa guided us to love our microbes, and emphasised our body’s need for minerals - the elements of life, and to think Biological: ’bio’ - life, ‘logi’ - it’s logical, ‘cal’ - we can calculate it, and Love - evolution - everything has to change. She reiterated an important point that if our body is in disharmony, there is a disconnection between spirit, mind and body, resulting in our body becoming acidic which in turn is a signal for our microbes to begin the decomposing process. Christa emphasised the need to provide energy for the healing process, not to go into battle, but to focus on coming into peace and to support life with the basic minerals and an alkaline body.

Susan Osman (television presenter and Media Consultant, UK) gave us an acronym for the word HEALTH: Harmony, Equilibrium, Acceptance, Love, Trust, Happiness. A dynamic presenter and fantastic MC for the conference. Jasmina Kovacev (Croatia / New Zealand) provided us with five keys when working with cancer clients, the importance in believing in our collective consciousness and the person’s ability to heal, and that ‘disease will leave it’s host when it cannot recognise it anymore’. Helena Kujama’s (Finland) words that UDIN’s (traumatic events in our life that are Unexpected, Dramatic, Isolating, to which we have No response) are our friends and to ‘listen to my heart and do what it tells me to do’ rang very true for me.

Yohannes Fisslinger (Co-founder of META-Medicine and founder of META-Health University, USA / Germany) presented ‘The 8 Milestones of Self Healing’  an integral component of META-Health, and guided us in a beautiful connection of META-Health and yoga. Yeliz Ruzgar (Turkey / USA) told her story in healing her ovarian cyst and its connection with the second chakra and our alignment with our life purpose. Dr Bernie Siegal (USA) gave us stories and how patient’s drawings show what is going on in their lives. What an inspiration Bernie is for us all in the ‘Art of Healing’. Dr Pedram Shojai (USA) on Skype from the hospital awaiting the birth of his baby, emphasised the need for us to understand the internet, to commit, excel and step into our wisdom as the world needs us.

Anu Mehta (India) enlightened us all with her dynamic exploration of our connection to our mother and the ‘Mysteries of the Uterus - the woman and the womb’, an area of special interest for me as a neonatal nurse and midwife specialising in nurturing the birth process and enhancing the growth and development of newborn infants and their family. The uterus is a child’s first home - its function is to connect to someone, to keep the baby fetus safe until born. Such an impact on our lives.

I also had the wonderful opportunity to attend the 2 day Matrix Reimprinting with Penny Croal (UK), following the conference. Wow what an impact this has for me in my passion for guiding clients in their healing journey and especially my love for nurturing neonates and their families. This was the final 2 days in a perfect week. Thank you Penny for being an inspirational teacher, both during conference in linking ‘ancient wisdom with META-Health science’, and within our Matrix training, in leading us in our exploration of self and listening to our and others inner child frozen in the moment of trauma waiting for the chance to express their need to be seen and heard. I would like to extend a huge thank you; to Johannes and everyone involved in organising and providing this wonderful conference and venue in beautiful Hawaii; to all speakers for your gift of knowledge and passion in META-Health; and to all who attended both in person and online.

You all created a magical time of love and connection
